About Lauren

When I was younger my dad wanted me to be a physical therapist. It’s no surprise as I was a competitive tennis player, a gymnast, a black diamond skier, as well as an avid bodyboarder, swimmer and skater. He knew me before I knew myself! Fast forward and now I can see that my calling is to help others ignite their own spark for yoga. As a student of Iyengar yoga, I can honestly say there are more benefits than you could ever know, but you have to start practicing!

I first practiced yoga at the age of 19, growing up in Southern California. I tried Ashtanga, Jivanmukti, Hatha, Kundalini and everything in between! It wasn't until I was in my early thirties when I read Light on Yoga and Light on Life by BKS Iyengar. I found his books inspiring and genius - compelling me to learn more so I sought out an Iyengar teacher in my area. Right away I knew that there was depth and intelligence to the teaching that I had not found before. Through the years I have had the opportunity to study with some of the best Iyengar teachers from around the world. I feel very fortunate to have two great teachers and mentors; Larissa McGoldrick and Sheila Haswell. I am deeply grateful for the teachings of BKS Iyengar, and his family.

Iyengar Yoga

Intelligent, transformative and profound, Iyengar Yoga provides practical tools to create and maintain bodily health and vitality, mental clarity, emotional serenity and spiritual well-being. Developed by B.K.S. Iyengar during his more than 75 years of teaching, Iyengar Yoga is grounded in the ancient Indian tradition and philosophy of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras.

Iyengar Yoga is not only one of the world’s most practiced methods of yoga, its principles are now incorporated into the teaching of yoga under many other names as well as into many forms of exercise, therapy, and movement.

BKS Iyengar’s revolutionary invention of yoga props (such as blocks, blankets, bolsters and belts) allows students of all ages and abilities to work to their fullest potential while overcoming limitations. B.K.S. Iyengar has made yoga accessible to and relevant for every age, body type, and physical ability. This is probably BKS Iyengar’s greatest achievement!

B.K.S. Iyengar

B.K.S. Iyengar is universally honored for the depth of his understanding and teaching of the art, science, and philosophy of yoga. He is considered to be the world’s greatest yoga teacher having practiced and studied the subject of Yoga for 85 years. He is the author of Light on Yoga, the most authoritative modern yoga text, Light on Pranayama, Light on the Yoga Sutras, Tree of Yoga, Light on Life and other exceptional reference works.

Mr. Iyengar pioneered the therapeutic applications of yoga for the treatment of many medical conditions and physical problems. Medical professionals and research in many disciplines around the world have recognized the efficacy of his method.
